These toys were
made from pine cut-offs left over from house building. The lighthouse
is imaginary, but the vessel is an adaptation of a famous excursion
steamer Bunker Hill. The lighthouse is illuminated by
a penlight with its pocket clip removed.
When Andrew was
four he asked me to make him a ship model he could build. I had
been working on Early Explorersand drawing Portuguese
caravels, so I made him this adaptation by using pine cut-offs
and dowels.
